About us
SLI-SS is a South Sudanese national NGO helping conflict-affected and displaced communities to save lives, protect dignity and build resilience.
What is SLI-SS
We work in some of South Sudan’s hardest-to-reach places, alongside communities affected by armed conflict, explosive ordnance, displacement, poverty, food insecurity and recurrent climate and public health shocks. We combine emergency response with recovery, resilience and locally led development.
Our programmes cover Protection, including child protection, gender-based violence prevention and response, and explosive ordnance risk education; Education; Food Security and Livelihoods; Peacebuilding; Health; and integrated Emergency Response. As a national organisation, we bring local knowledge, community trust and access, backed by structured programme management and accountability.
Our vision, mission and values
Saving lives for now and for the future, and building a secure and self-reliant environment for the most vulnerable communities.
To eradicate poverty by addressing livelihood, social health and nutrition needs and by protecting the most vulnerable communities.

Integrity
We act honestly, manage resources responsibly and address misconduct.

How we work
Communities take part at every stage, from assessment and design to monitoring and handover. We engage women, men, girls, boys, youth, older people, persons with disabilities, traditional and faith leaders and local authorities, and we coordinate closely with county, state and national authorities.
Our work is needs-based, impartial, conflict-sensitive and gender-responsive. It follows national, cluster and global technical standards, and it is built to last, through skills transfer, community ownership and stronger local institutions.
Governance and leadership
Our Board of Directors is SLI-SS’s highest governing body. It sets strategic direction, approves major policies and plans, oversees performance and risk, and holds management to account. The Executive Director leads day-to-day operations with a Senior Management Team covering programmes, finance, human resources, monitoring and evaluation, procurement and logistics, and security.
Meet our leadershipSafeguarding and accountability
We have zero tolerance for sexual exploitation and abuse, child abuse, harassment, fraud, corruption and retaliation. A Code of Conduct binds our staff, volunteers, consultants, contractors and relevant partners, backed by safer recruitment, mandatory training and confidential reporting.
Communities can give feedback or raise complaints through help desks, phone lines, suggestion boxes, community meetings, focal points and confidential safeguarding routes. Every concern is logged, followed up and closed with the person who raised it, where safe to do so.
Partners and coordination
We work with communities, national and local authorities, UN agencies, international and national NGOs, donors and the private sector. Our partners and coordination bodies include UNICEF, the United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS), the National Mine Action Authority, MAG (Mines Advisory Group), IOM and the South Sudan Humanitarian Fund, and we take part in sector and inter-agency coordination.
